By Mark Askelson (4/19/17)
Red Lake Falls, MN -- This weekend, many guy and gals will be giving their all on and off the court in hopes of raising money for cancer research during the 12th annual Hoops for Hope Foundation Charity Event. Over the years, Hoops for Hope has raised over $285,000 towards the Jimmy V Foundation and the American Cancer Society. Started in 2006 by brothers Ryan and Jason Brumwell to raise cancer awareness after their mother, Diane Brumwell, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, Hoops for Hope has become so much more than just a basketball tournament. Jason Brumwell says some of biggest competition comes off the court.
Plaques and All Tournament Team honors are awarded to the top five players who raise the most money and the MVP honors goes to the person who raises the most of the tournament. Along with the tournament, Brumwell says there is an entire weekend of events centered on raising money, including a spaghetti feed, corn hole tournament, social, and silent auction.
Every dollar raised from weekend goes directly to the Jimmy V Foundation and towards cancer research. For more information about Hoops for Hope or to donate, go to www.hoopsforhopefoundation.com.
