Recap

Hillsboro/Central Valley welcomed Larimore to Buxton Monday night for a Region Two volleyball matchup. Though the Polar Bears were winless coming into this match, they certainly didn’t play like their record indicated, testing the Burros for three sets. Ultimately, the Burros prevailed in an hour in straight sets: 25-18, 25-20, 25-18.

The Burros got out in front early, grabbing a 5-0 lead to start the match. The Polar Bears kept it close, but HCV still outscored Larimore the rest of the set: 20-18, to come away with the first set victory. The Burros started the second set off with a 3-0 lead, before the Polar Bears rattled off an 8-0 run of their own to take their first lead in any set in the match. Half of the points on that run came off of senior Addie Larson’s four aces. Despite Larimore’s big lead, the Burros rallied, outscoring the Polar Bears the rest of the way, 22-12 to take the second set. In the third, the Burros surged ahead early with a 22-9 lead. Larimore fought back, cutting the lead to six on a 9-2 run before the Burros finished off the match.

Carsi Hatlestad and Haley Smelden led the Burros with a combined 17 kills. Madilyn Hoverson and Katelynn Eggl led the Polar Bears with a combined six kills, two aces, and a block. Both teams have non-region matches next as Hillsboro/Central Valley hosts Maple River on Thursday and Larimore has a quick turnaround as they head to Leeds to battle Benson County Tuesday.
