Aitkin County Soil & Water Conservation District update with Director Steve Hughes

(Aitkin, MN) — Aitkin County Soil & Water Conservation District Director Steve Hughes wrapped up 2020 with a look at Water Quality and how it will be affected going into the New Year.

Hughes first informed us about how Soil & Water Conservation Districts came to be, especially in Aitkin County.

Projects that the SWCD undertakes to keep water clear includes making sure soil particles, such as phosphorus, do not contaminate the water supply.

The District’s culvert inventory project has been focusing on the McGregor, Shamrock, and Workman Townships on a handful of concerns.

Hughes also made mention on tree sales and how they can help with proper planting of the trees.
