International Falls – Fresh off an eight round shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks, the Minnesota Wild stand at 21-10-2 on the 2021 season. A surprising front half of the year which has seen the Wild slide into the third seed in the Western Division begs the question, can Minnesota sustain this through the playoffs?
Jessi Pierce, writer for NHL.com, joined Kris Norton and Mike Bolstad on The Morning Show for a deep dive into the team’s make-up, difficulties, and most importantly, find out whether or not the Wild are serious contenders.
While an unexpected start out of the gates is promising for Wild fans, Pierce wonders if Minnesota can keep up the momentum throughout the year.
The Wild’s well-catalogued Power Play issues have remained, but, Pierce says, faceoffs have also been a weak link for the club.
The current 11-game win streak at Xcel Energy Center has been largely fueled by the play of goalies Cam Talbot and Kaapo Kahkonen. Pierce says that Head Coach Dean Evason and his coaching staff are content with riding the hot hand.
