Spring Planting Making Steady Progress

May 7, 2021 Farm News News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

Ada, MN — Spring planting remains in full swing as area farmers in the Red River Valley transition from wheat to corn, sugarbeets, and soybeans. We caught up with Mike Nelson with West Central Ag Services for an update on the planting progress in the region during this week’s Farm and Field Show. Nelson says planting started off great, then it slowed with the cool weather, and is steadily picking up pace.

Nelson says there has been reports of emergence issues with some of the earliest seeded wheat and notes a few have had to reseed.

And while its slowly warming up, temps some nights have still been below freezing. Nelson says most everything planted in the last couple weeks should be ok, but growers should still be keeping an eye out for potential emergence issues.
