Garrison Disposal concerned on Aitkin County land use for Waste Management station

(Aitkin, MN) — At the May 17th Aitkin County Planning and Zoning Meeting, Attorney Ed Shaw appeared on behalf of Garrison Disposal concerning an application for Rezone/Conditional Use for property currently owned by Aitkin County on behalf of Waste Management.

Shaw spoke to Doug Gillette of R&J Broadcasting, Inc. about the concerns of the current property, a recycling only facility, not being suitable for a full service solid waste transfer station.

Waste Management has asked Aitkin County for permission to acquire the parcel and is asking for assistance in the form of tax incentives, reduced, or no cost acquisition of the property or other types of public assistance. Shaw spoke about the May 17th meeting and how residents and citizens voiced their displeasure of the proposed plan.
