Aitkin School Board discusses combining positions, Back to School Plan at June 21st regular meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board discussed combining staff positions and reviewed budgets for the upcoming school year during their regular board meeting Monday night from the Aitkin High School Media Center.
Superintendent Dan Stifter and Board Director Joe Ryan opened the discussion taking place on the possibility of combining the Activities Director and Dean of Students position.
The presenting motion of combining the two positions failed on a 4-2 vote with one board member abstaining. The Board did approve the Extra-curricular assignment of Lena Broeckel as a Junior High Volleyball Coach for Fall 2021, the retirement of Special Education Teacher Terry Mehr effective July 31st, the contract between Northern Pines and Aitkin Public Schools for the 2021-22 school year, the 21-22 ARCC contract, and the Revised list for the Class of 2021.
Board director Joe Ryan spoke on the Principals contract for 2019-2021 that was presented without advanced notice or guidelines for the future.
The contracts were approved by the Board, the hiring of an Assistant for the 2022 Musical at acost of $3,000, and the Fiscal Year 2021 revise budget and the fiscal Year 2022 preliminary budget. Superintendent Stifter highlighted the latest talks for staff contract negotiations.

Updates on the Capital Projects Levy, the formation of Levy Teams, and updates from Rapp Strategies and ICs were also discussed, which will be featured later this week.
The Aitkin Public School Board will be holding a Work Session meeting at 7pm on Monday, July 12th at the Media Center.
