Aitkin City Council approves Riverboat Days permits at July 19th meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin City Council held a quorum meeting Monday night to discuss and review special event permits for Riverboat Days from the Community Room of the Aitkin Public Library.
The Council did approve the Special Event Permit for 1981 Class Reunion at Aitkin City Park on July 31st as part of the RippleSippi Music Fest, a parade permit for Riverboat Days on August 7th, and a resolution to approve off-site gamlbing for the Aitkin Quarterbacks Club for the Harvest Moon Brew Fest.
Council member Jason Henke spoke about purchasing security cameras for the City Park due to increases in vandalism after the park is supposed to be closed.
The discussion of the cameras was tabled until the next meeting scheduled for August 2nd. Aitkin Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Taylor Erickson spoke about Riverboat Days events including the Special Event Permit for the “Sip and Stroll”.
The permit was approved by the Council and permits for Street Fair and the Dump Run. City Administrator Rose Beverly spoke about the Liquor Store Policy update of being 21 years of age to enter.
Acting mayor Leeann Moriarity also touched on the Aitkin Centennial Time Capsule opening that occurred this past Saturday.
The Aitkin City Council will next meet on Monday, August 2nd at 6pm from the Aitkin Public Library Community Room.
