Koochiching County Commissioners Meeting-7/28/21
The Tuesday, July 27th Koochiching County Board of Commissioners Meeting began with a public hearing on the property tax abatement for the Cobblestone Hotel and Suites project. During the public hearing, Paul Nevanen of the Koochiching Economic Development Authority addressed concerns about the new project not paying any taxes.
The Property Tax Abatement was approved unanimously during the regular board meeting. In other agenda items, Jeff Hardwig presented the commissioners with a project to remove approximately 9 acres of cattails near County Road 134 along with the installation of 6 culverts to improve water flow. According to Hardwig, the cattail problems were created when County Roads 134 and 135 were built. Hardwig gave some financial details of the project.
The commissioners will vote on the request at a later date. The board also approved a conditional use permit for a RV site behind the Boondocks Bar & Grill in Ray. Koochiching County Environmental Services Director Matt Gouin gives details for the project.
County Engineer Trent Nicholson also presented the board with the option of buying a parcel of land and home for $130,000 to help with the overpass to be constructed on County Road 24. The house and property would be sold after the overpass is constructed. The board approved unanimously. The board also approved a bid to replace the bridge of County Road 99 over the Rat Root River to the M & K Bridge Company. Construction could be completed before winter.
