(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing during their regular board meeting Tuesday to review any potential positives or negatives of revising the ATV ordinance to allow for vehicles to be driven on paved county roads and within municipal city limits.

Aitkin County Engineer John Welle reviewed the current ordinance and how it limits riders.

The proposed revision would allow for ATV operators onto paved county highways and on the extreme right side of city roads, with a few other conditions.

The public representing local ATV clubs and organizations were out to voice their support of the proposed revision to the Board as well as written and submitted support.

Other proposed revisions to the ATV ordinance also include eliminating reference to Corridor Access Permit program and the statutory requirements for hours of operation on highway right of way and youth riding.

The Aitkin County Board took no formal action at Tuesday’s meeting, but will review the comments, statements before convening to make a decision at a later meeting.
