REACH Backpack Distribution this Week

Hendrum, MN — Summer is flying by, and school will be here before your know it! REACH, the Rural Enrichment and Counseling Headquarters, is reminding those in their service area of Rural Clay, Becker, and Norman Counties of their services and how they can help families once school is back in session. One of the programs is their School Supply distribution, which will take place on August 10th in Hendrum and August 11th in Hawley. REACH Executive Director Peggie Chisholm says right now enrollment in the distribution is much lower than usual and she encourages families to sign up if they could use some help getting new school supplies for the kids.
Thankfully once school starts, all students will have access to free lunch once again this year. However, while they can all eat during school, some students may not be so lucky at home. Chisholm says one of their mainstay programs at REACH is their weekend backpack program, where they provide hundreds of weekend meals to less fortunate students.
And while winter is not on the forefront of people’s minds, Chisholm says they are now taking signs up for the winter gear program and accepting gently used winter gear at their Thrift Stores to give out to students this fall.
