Crookston, MN — Things are going to get sticky in downtown Crookston this Friday! Ox Carts Day began this week and one of the new events is gaining national attention. The CHEDA is helping a sponsor a Community S’mores event this Friday, August 20th at 5pm where people can grab a skewer, marshmallow, graham crackers, and of course, a Hershey Chocolate bar and make S’mores together as a community in downtown Crookston. An event such as this, however, would not be possible with the craftiness of a local teacher and his students, according to Ox Cart Days Chair Libby Bouchar.

Excitement about this community S’mores event wasn’t just limited to a bunch a sticky fingered 8-year-olds. Chocolate giant Hershey’s caught wind of the community event and not only gifted the Crookston 40,000 chocolate bars but is flying in to be part of it as well, according to Bouchar.

The Community S’mores event is free with your purchase of a $5 Ox Cart Days button. The University of Minnesota-Crookston has also hidden a golden ticket in three of the s’mores making kits. The golden tickets are redeemable for a $1,000 Golden Eagle Scholarship, Golden Eagle Maroon and Gold package, and $250 in Crookston Chamber Bucks.

And don’t worry about sticky fingers, wet naps will be provided.

Other events at this year’s Ox Cart Days include a Supermarket Sweet, Veteran’s Recognition ceremony, Road Rally, Food Truck Fest, Trapeze show, bouncy games, pancake breakfast, beach bash, parade, pizza eating contest, street dance, and dozens and dozens of other events.
