Polk County, MN – Nathan Peterson of FSA gave the weekly report on Thursday, August 19th. The report primarily focused on the Livestock Forage Program (LFP). Certain requirements must be met to trigger the program, which parts of Minnesota have met. Peterson covers what the guidelines are for the LFP to be implemented.

The LFP is meant to reimburse producers for “the loss of grazing days for animals that would have been normally grazing during [the drought] time period.” Producers must have reported pasture acres to the local FSA office to qualify for the program.

Other information needed for an application is the amount of animals actively grazing during the said normal period. Cattle, goats and sheep are all available for inclusion in the application for the Livestock Forage Program. Specifics for each grazing group and more information on LFP can be found at farmers.gov.
