Crookston, MN — September is National Suicide Prevention Month and this week, September 5th through 11th, is Suicide Prevention Week. As part of this month, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is using the theme of #BeThe1to and asking people to “be the one to” Ask, Be There, Keep Them Safe, Help Them Stay Connected, and Follow Up. The Lifeline network and its partners are working to change the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention, to actions that can promote healing, help and give hope. Shauna Reitmeier, CEO of Aluma in Crookston, says given our thick-skinned nature it can be hard to ask for help when we need it, so it may take a friend to take that step to ask if everything is ok.

Reitmeier says whether you are looking for help for yourself or want to make a referral, you can find all that information on their new website, www.alumacares.org.

Aluma was previously known as the Northwestern Mental Health Center.
