Former Ag Leaders Collin Peterson & Bill Northey Continue to be Involved in Ag Policy
West Fargo, ND — The annual Big Iron Farm Show at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds got underway Tuesday for the first of three days of demonstrations, seminars, training sessions, and more than 900 exhibit booths and displays. During Big Iron the Red River Farm Network and Your Live Event teamed up to host live seminars from their Issues and Events Center. Kicking off the seminars was the very popular former House Ag Chair Collin Peterson and Former USDA Under Secretary Bill Northey, who provided a unique perspective on farm policy. Peterson was a strong voice for agriculture in Congress before losing the 2020 election to Republican challenger Michelle Fischbach, but he says in recent years the legislature became too partisan for his often-bipartisan ways.
Northey noted that over time there has also been less interest and representation of agriculture in Congress, which he says is concerning given the impact of ag on the country as a whole.
Peterson and Northey announced during Big Iron that they are teaming up to form a Midwest Council on Agriculture. Peterson says they are basing this coalition off of what other ag groups have done in other parts of the country to promote and support agriculture in the legislature.
