City of Brainerd Approves Preliminary Levy, More from September 20 Council Meeting
(BRAINERD, MN) — The city of Brainerd held its second regular council meeting of the month of September on Monday, so we had our routine chat with Mayor Dave Badeaux to gather the latest.
The big highlight from the meeting came when the council approved the preliminary tax levy for 2022 at 2.0%. Badeaux said the city will continue working toward making that number as low as possible.
Also on the financial side of things, the city approved the sale of its general obligation bonds.
The city’s annex building has been in need of repairs in recent times, so the council authorized staff to pursue negotiations with Region 5 for said repairs in what Badeaux believes will be a mutually beneficial agreement.
With the fall season upon us, the time has come to start thinking about snow, and Badeaux says to expect more conversations surrounding downtown snow removal for the city in meetings in the near future.
Looking ahead, the city has workshops planned for planning & zoning, the parking commission, and potential uses for incoming funds from the American Rescue Plan.
We thank Mayor Badeaux for his time. The city of Brainerd will hold its next regular council meeting on October 4. Our full interview with Badeaux may be found below.
