Halstad City Council Exploring Sales Tax Option

Halstad, MN — The Halstad City Council discussed updates with the former school building, explored a city sales tax option, and approved a mail-in election for next fall at their regular meeting earlier this month. The city continues to find more uses for the former High School building. Halstad Mayor Darin Johnson says they have camping and storage opportunities now available as well.

The council also had some preliminary discussions about implementing a city-wide sales tax and the steps required for doing so. Doing so would require legislative and voter approval. Mayor Johnson notes that they could also recoup sales tax from online orders.

Johnson also notes that the city of Halstad will proceed again with a mail-in ballot election next fall.

And Johnson encourages community members to attend the annual Halstad Community Dinner this Thursday, September 30th at the Halstad LRC, where he will give his State of the City Address and the Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year will be recognized. A spaghetti bake will be served and the cost is $15 per person. More information on that on tomorrow’s news line.
