McGregor School Board receives COVID update from Public Health, talks expansion projects during regular board meeting

(McGregor, MN) — The McGregor School Board received updates from Aitkin County Public Health and heard from Nexus on the Referendum Building projects during their regular meeting on Monday, September 27th from the McGregor High School Library.

Brea Hamdorf from Public Health provided a COVID-19 update concerning positive cases and how the District should best handle them with no State mandated mask-wearing in schools.

Superintendent and Elementary Principal Brad Johnson elaborated more on the hard numbers and suggestions of possible transitions in learning models and other mitigating measures.

Hamdorf did also mention that Aitkin County Public Health recommends masking for all county-wide based on the current CDC recommendations, as the Board did approve the COVID-19 matrix later in the meeting. A representative from Nexus was on hand with a progress update for the expansion and additions to the McGregor School District.

The Board did table a donation of $5,000 from the McGregor Lions Club for the student activity bus, approved maternity leave for Danielle Johnson, the resignation of Kim Sather as a part-time Preschool Assistant, and the resignation of Jodi Maas as Elementary Secretary/MARSS Coordinator. Approval was also given to the contract for Jodi Maas as Administrative Secretary/Payroll Clerk/Benefits Manager, contract with Erik Kujlu as Transportation Supervisor, Camille Karels as full-time elementary paraprofessional, Sarah Pierce as full-time Elementary Secretary/MARSS Coordinator, Paige Stenson as part-time Preschool Assistant, and Robert Garvey as route bus driver.

The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Cheryl Meld and ISD #4, and tabled the MOU with Jennifer Thomspon pending further discussion with all concerned parties. Approval was also given for the 2021 payable 2022 proposed levy at the maximum, set the Truth and Taxation Hearing for 6pm on December 13th, and proposal from Northland Gas Equipment in the amount of $23,825.000 for safety updates on propane system.

The resolution for adoption of Strategic Planning was approved by the Board as well as an overnight trip to Grand Marais on October 11th for the Cross Country team.

The McGregor School Board will hold their next work session meeting on October 11th at 6pm from the High School Library.
