Riverwood’s Dr. Paul Severson talks Gastroparesis, GERD Awareness Week ahead of Thanksgiving holiday

(Aitkin, MN) — Starting November 21st is the start of GERD, or Gastroesophageal reflux disease, Awareness Week just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

We recently chatted with the medical director at the Minnesota Reflux and Heartburn Centerand reflux specialist Dr. Paul Severson spoke on gastroparesis or “weak stomach” in which your stomach empties of food slower than normal. 

These can mask themselves among other common ailments, but Dr. Severson noted there are ways to diagnose based on basic health.

Dr. Severson also spoke about one way that can fully test if a patient has gastroparesis. 

Thanksgiving also serves as a reminder during GERD Awareness Week to take into account your health on an overeating holiday.
