Snow plowing addressed at Aitkin City Council meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — During Monday’s Aitkin City Council meeting, questions and inquiries were raised on the City’s procedure for plowing city streets after the first big snowfall of the season.

Aitkin Mayor Megan Workman received word from downtown businesses concerned over snow removal and Lon Nicko from the Street Department presented what the businesses are responsible for moving snow.

With one truck and one loader for snow removal in the City of Aitkin, the current practices of piling snow on street curbs is their best option currently.

Nicko said he is open to changing up how the Street Department moves but that would come with the caveat of having the equipment to do so.

The Aitkin City Council is next scheduled to meet on Monday, December 20th at 6pm from the Community Room of the Aitkin Public Library.
