Aitkin School Board approves Levy, reviews Board procedures

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board convened Monday to pass the 2022 Levy, review Board procedures and curriculum from the High School Media Center.
Business Manager Heather Hipp began with the Truth and Taxation portion of the meeting with a breakdown of how the district arrives at the Final Levy.
The 2021 payable 2022 Levy of $2.631,691.42 was approved by the Board as well as the 2020-21 Annual Audit. In the regular meeting, Kathleen Christy presented to the Board on student testing data and how proficient the District is despite challenges related to COVID-19.
Aitkin students were 53.9% proficient in math, 35.6% in science, and 53.8% in reading. Those marks were higher than the state average in reading and math.
Superintendent Dan Stifter touched on some potential changes with the Board Procedures.
Stifter did also mention attending meetings remotely and the need to broadcast and live stream meetings. The Strategic Plan is also moving forward.
Stifter did also address the OSHA COVID-19 Emergency Temporary standard, which currently does not affect Minnesota schools.
The School Board did approve the hiring of Adrianne Jessen as a Paraprofessional, Tenure for Activities Director Alex White, Bus and Custodian contracts for 2021-23, combined polling places for Special Elections, andthe 2021-22 Combined World’s Best Workforce Summary and Achievement and Integration Progress Report.
The Aitkin Public School Board will meet again for their regular meeting on Monday, January 10th at 7pm from the High School Media Center.
