Mahnomen City Council News & Notes from February 22nd Meeting
Mahnomen, MN — The Mahnomen City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 22nd at the Mahnomen Fire Hall, which is the new meeting location for the council now that the remodel has been completed. At the meeting, the council opened bids for the proposed Library/City Hall remodel, which included new roof, windows, lighting, and ADA compliance updates. The bids came in much higher than originally estimated, about $100,000 more than the $160,000 estimated in 2020. Even though they have grants to help cover some of the costs, Mahnomen City Administrator Kari Kirschbaum says they may be going back to the drawing board.
There was some more positive news at this week’s meeting, however. Kirschbaum says the city of Mahnomen was awarded a $227,000 Safe Routes to School grant for sidewalk improvements.
And the former City Administrator Mitch Berg, now the Association Director of the Veden Center for Rural Engagement for the University of Minnesota-Crookston, continues to work with the City of Mahnomen as a consultant for a handful of projects. One of those projects, according to Kirschbaum, is working with Community Co Op to annex them into the city to hook into their water and sewer.
The Mahnomen City Council meets next on Monday, March 7th.
