Cherry at Pine River-Backus
Recap
The Pine River-Backus Tigers’ matinee showdown with the #18A Cherry Tigers ended in defeat on Friday with a 68-49 score.
The gym was packed for the game, which began as a tightly contested affair as PRB and Cherry found themselves tied at 15-15 midway through the first half. After a timeout from Cherry coach Jordan Christianson, however, the road Tigers’ offense exploded, leaving PRB in the dust. In the latter portion of the first half, Cherry separated themselves with excellent passing to create open looks and by halftime they found themselves up by 20 points with a 47-27 score.
The PRB Tigers wouldn’t go away quietly; they began the second half on a 13-4 run to pull the game within 11 with an opportunity to get within 10, but Cherry rebounded, cashing in on back-to-back 3s to silence the crowd and take the momentum back. Ultimately, the deficit wouldn’t change much, and PRB fell 68-49.
Cherry (14-3) will play #1A Hayfield on Saturday. PRB (9-11) gets a short break before they travel to Laporte on Tuesday.
