Oklee, MN — The Red Lake County Central Mustangs were able to outlast the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears in five sets on Thursday night.

The opening set was all Clearbrook-Gonvick as the Bears cruised to a 25-15 set victory to go up 1-0. In set number the Mustangs used a 12-0 to go up by as many as 11 points early on but they narrowly escaped with a 25-23 win. Set three was also close with back and forth action and the largest lead being only four points. Much like the second, the Bears made a late push but the Mustangs would hang on to win 25-22. In the fourth, Clearbrook-Gonvick was able to channel much of what they did in the first and won 25-14. The fifth set was once again both teams trading points but RLCC would go on a final 6-2 run to win 15-11 and win the match overall 3-2.

With the win, RLCC is now 4-12 and will play in a tournament this weekend in Mahnomen. Clearbrook-Gonvick now falls to 3-15 and will be at home next Tuesday vs. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.
