In a game heard on K104 and rjbroadcasting.com on Friday, the North Central Stars opened their season against the Cromwell-Wright Area Cardinals. It was the Stars that opened the scoring with a 33 yard touchdown run with 7:31 remaining in the 1st quarter and North Central led 6-0. The Cardinals tied it with less than a minute remaining in the 1st quarter, and it remained tied at 6 until less than a minute remaining in the 3rd quarter. Freshman AJ Knaeble bulled across from 2 yards out and North Central led 12-6. Late in the 4th quarter, the Cardinals went on 4th down deep in their own territory and were not successful as the Stars took over at the 20-yard line. North Central drove to the 2-yard line but turned the ball over on downs with 2:06 left. All of a sudden, the Cromwell Area offense came to life and drove 98 yards in a minute and 5 seconds to tie it and then foreign exchange student Andres Vallejo nailed the extra point kick and North Central lost their season opener 13-12. Will Gilbert led the Stars with 68 yards rushing and Wyatt Hell added 61.
