Climax, MN — The Polk County West Thunder grinded out a victory over the Fosston Greyhounds on Friday night, in a game that was scoreless at halftime, despite both teams having their fair share of opportunities and featured three turnovers by the Thunder.

The opening possession of the game for PCW was along drive that took minutes off the clock but ended in a turnover on downs, the Greyhounds would punt the ball away on the ensuing possession. On the next series for Polk County West, they marched into Greyhound territory before Quarterback Breck Bloom was intercepted by Fosston Defensive Lineman Tony Carlin which flipped the field from one 25 yard line to the other after a long return by Carlin. Again, after the forced turnover, Fosston was unable to capitalize on the short field turning the ball over on downs. The Thunder would take over and was beginning to get their offense in a groove until they coughed the football up on a 17 yard pass play and then recovered by Fosston. The Greyhounds would turn the ball over on downs one more time and the Thunder would throw a late half interception while trying to orchestrate a late half scoring drive.

The Thunder would score on their opening drive of the second half with a five yard touchdown run by Breck Bloom to go up 6-0. PCW would score again with a successful two point conversion after more than six minute scoring drive going up 14-0-. Fosston’s only score, a 61 yard touchdown pass from Thatcher Palubicki to Aaron Norland, put some late pressure on the Thunder but one more score for Polk County West sealed the victory 22-8.

Polk County West is now 2-1 and will travel to Bagley next Friday. The Greyhounds fall to 0-3 and will travel to Lake Park-Audubon in their next game.
