In a complete 180 from Tuesday’s loss to Pillager, the Aitkin Gobblers Girls Basketball team put the clamps down early and forced turnovers on the Hill City/Northland Storm for a 56-32 victory Friday night.

In their first win of the season, Aitkin came out shooting with Ella Janzen shooting well from beyond the 3-point line and coming out with 15 points off 4 made 3-pointers. Despite shooting 6-of-17 from the free throw line, Aitkin built up a 31-17 lead going into halftime.

The Gobblers came in the 2nd half with an 18-0 run and never looked back with 41 total rebounds in the win. Janzen would go on to finish with 18 points and Rae Nyberg capped off the win with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Annika Spangler led the Storm with 9 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.

Aitkin improves to 1-1 on the season with a road game Tuesday against Moose Lake/Willow River. Hill City/Northland falls to 0-2 and will face McGregor on the road Monday, which can be heard on KKIN-FM Real Country 94.3 and rjbroadcasting.com.
