Grafton 3 Hillsboro-Central Valley 2 (21-25, 25-19, 9-25, 25-13, 15-9)

Grafton came back from a two sets to one deficit to beat Hillsboro-Central valley in five sets Thursday night in Grafton.

The Burros scored the final six points of the opening set to win 25-21 as Haley Smelden had a solo block and combined with Krista Ackerman on two other blocks in that first set.

The second set had the same script, but with the roles reversed.  Grafton had an 8-2 run late in the set to get a 25-19 victory as Molly Bjorneby had seven of her 12 kills in that second set.

Set three was all HCV as Sydni Culp had four kills and three blocks in a 25-9 victory.

In set four, Grafton took advantage of Burro mistakes to get a 25-13 win and force a deciding fifth set.

In that fifth set, the Spoilers jumped to a 7-2 start, with two points coming on HCV service errors and two on hitting errors.  Grafton also had a service ace, block and kill from Claire Olson as they took the fifth set and the match 15-9.

Sydni Culp had 14 kills and five blocks for HCV, with teammate Haley Smelden adding nine kills, two solo blocks and three block assists.  The Burros are now 10-14 overall and 4-5 in Region 2 play.

Molly Bjorneby and Addison Fredericksen had 12 kills apiece for Grafton.  The Spoilers are now 11-7-2 on the year and 6-4 in Region 2 play.
