Hillsboro-Central Valley 3 Maple River 2 (27-25, 14-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-13)

Hillsboro-Central Valley outlasted Maple River in a five set match Thursday in Tower City.

The Burros served six aces as they took the first set 27-25.  Maple River won the next two sets, 25-14 and 25-18.  Hillsboro-Central Valley rallied behind five Haley Smelden kills to win the fourth set 25-19.

Hillsboro-Central Valley jumped to a 5-1 start in the fifth and deciding set.  Then the Raiders came back to lead 10-8.  A Smelden kill tied it at 13.  Then a Smelden block put the Burros up 14-13; then a Maple River hit out of bounds provided the winning point for HCV.

Smelden had 14 kills and two blocks for Hillsboro-Central Valley (9-12).  Stella Satrom had 19 kills, three solo blocks and two block assists for Maple River (7-9-1).
