Recap

In a memorable football game on Homecoming, the International Falls football team rallied from behind 4 times in the game to win 49-48 over Hinckley-Finlayson.  The game started with the Jaguars taking the opening kickoff and methodically moving down the field to score about 5 minutes into the game and the first quarter would end with Hinckley-Finlayson up 7-0.  It was a vastly different 2nd quarter as the teams would combine to score 49 points.  The Falls struck first with a 26-yard TD pass from Cody Joslyn to Hendrix Torgerson and they would hook up for the 2-pt conversion and it was 8-7.  The Jaguars fumbled on their next possession and the Broncos ran the hook & lateral for the second consecutive week for a TD as it was Joslyn to homecoming king Ezra McGonigle and then the lateral to Cooper Crandall.  Parker Olson scored the 2-pt conversion and the Falls led 16-7.  Hinckley-Finlayson answer back with 2 long TD’s of their own to take back the lead 20-16.  Joslyn threw his third TD pass of the 2nd quarter with 2:07 left, a 16-yard toss to Kane Thompson for his first varsity TD and the Broncos were up 22-20.  HF scored with a minute left to lead 28-22, but Joslyn threw his 4th TD of the quarter with 1 second left on a 10 yard pass to Charlie Greenlee and the game was tied at 28 going to half.

The third quarter only had one touchdown and it was Cooper Crandall scampering in from 10 yards out to give the Broncos the lead 34-28.  That set up a wild 4th quarter.  The Jaguars scored to lead 35-34 but it was Crandall again, this time from 49 yards and when Joslyn hit Jake Olson on the 2 pt conversion pass the Broncos led 42-35.  Hinckley-Finlayson tied it with 7:23 left and then the Broncos went on a 14 play, 65 yard drive and scored with 15 seconds left on a 28-yard pass from Joslyn to Greenlee.  Joslyn added the extra point kick, and the score was 49-42.  Ball game right…..no.  Hinckley-Finlayson returned the kickoff 63 yards to the Bronco 17-yard line with no time showing on the clock.  Ball game right…..no.  The referee says there is one second left and the video replay on Your Live Event.com shows that to be correct.  The Jaguars scored on the next play to make it 49-48.  Hinckley-Finlayson would go for two with a run by their best running back Levi Degerstrom, but he came up a foot short on a tackle by McGonigle, and the Broncos win a wacky one, 49-48.  After the game, senior captain Braden Skifstad says they had to get it done on Homecoming.

Joslyn completed 21 of 37 for 324 yards and 5 TD’s which is a school record and Cooper Crandall rushed 25 times for 173 yards.  The Broncos are now 1-4 on the season and will play at Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin on Friday.
