Erskine, MN — The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds won their second game of the season on Tuesday night with an 89-74 win over the Win E Mac Patriots.

The first half of the game the Pats and T-Birds traded blows with the largest lead of the first half being only eight points in favor of Win E Mac 21-13. Mahnomen/Waubun would trail nearly the rest of the first half until the final couple possession. They would then take a slim 42-41 lead into halftime. The second half was flipped for Mahnomen/Waubun, they trailed early 44-42 after the fifth of eight made 3-Pointers by Win E Mac Sophomore Hayden Johnson. After that point, the Thunderbirds never trailed in the second half. Mahnomen/Waubun outscored Win E Mac 47-32 in the second half and held Win E Mac Sophomore Joe Courneya scoreless after he poured in 17 first half points.

The Thunderbirds rebounding ability was a big catalyst to the 89-74 win as they improve to 2-6 on the season. Mahnomen/Waubun will be at Bagley on Thursday. GOLD 101.5 FM KRJM will have live game coverage. For Win E Mac they drop their second game in a row falling to 4-8 overall and will be at Kittson County Central on Thursday.
