Mahnomen-Waubun 31 at Warroad 14

The Mahnomen Waubun Thunderbirds had their hands full with a tough Warroad Warriors team on a cold wet evening for high school football.  The Thunderbirds built an early 16-0 lead in the first half, but with some mistakes and penalties the Warriors offense would start to gain some momentum and would find the end zone before the the half to make it 16-8 at the half with Mahnomen Waubun leading.  In the 2nd half Warroad would have the ball to begin the half and after a 14 play drive they would score midway through the 3rd quarter but would miss the 2 point conversion to make the score 16-14 Mahnomen Waubun.  THe Thunderbirds would answer back with 7 play drive resulting in a touchdown and with the 2 point covenversion the score would be 24-14.  Both teams would put together solid drives with the time winding down but late in the 4th with Warroads offense on the field, a pass attempt would be intercepted by Dennis Ashley of the Thunderbirds and he would return it 21 yards for the score to seal the win for Mahnomen Waubun moving their record to 3-0 while Warroad falls to 1-2.
