Mayport-CG advanced to Wednesday’s North Dakota Region 2 volleyball title game Tuesday by beating Cavalier three sets to one in the Region semifinals in Park River. The scores were 23-25, 25-12, 25-10 and 25-21.

The opening set was tightly contested with the Cavaliers breaking a 23-all tie with an Eden Carrier kill and a Mayport-CG hitting error. Carrier had four kills and two blocks in the opening set. For the game, the senior had 12 kills and three blocks.

Mayport-CG then took charge in the next two sets. In set two, the Patriots jumped to a 9-1 lead with Kate Bradner scoring four consecutive Mayport-CG points. Then in set three, Bradner had three kills and a block down the stretch. Bradner finished the night with seven kills, two solo blocks and one block assist.

The fourth set was back and forth, like the first set. With Mayport-CG leading 23-21, Cavalier’s Jade Kihne hit into the net, then a Tornado player was called for a double contact–giving the Patriots the set and the match.

Danica Hanson led a balanced Patriot attack with 11 kills, a block assist and two aces. Rylee Satrom added eight kills, a solo block, one block assist and four aces. Mayport-CG (30-4) plays Thompson Wednesday for the Region 2 championship.

Cavalier (22-9) meets Hatton-Northwood Wednesday in the third place game.
