Mesabi East at International Falls
The International Falls volleyball team hosted Mesabi East in the Section 7AA quarterfinals on Friday night. The Giants took control of the 1st set and most of the second set as they won Set 1 25-18 and Set 2 25-23. In the second set, the Broncos were down 18-10 but battled back to 23-23 before losing the set. However, that rally set the stage for the remainder of the match. Set 3 had 9 ties and 4 lead changes early before the match started a major upswing for the Broncos. With the set tied at 12, the Falls went on a 13-4 run to win the third set 25-16. The Broncos then routed the Giants in Set 4, 25-8 including 10 straight points with Gracie Swenson serving. International Falls then completed the surprising comeback as they won Set 5, 15-6. That means the Broncos won 53 of the last 71 points played. After the match, Swenson who had 18 kills, 10 aces, 3 blocks, and 22 digs, says the team was really nervous in the first 2 sets
Madison Wille tallied 16 kills and 7 blocks, Bella Wille 11 kills and 4 blocks, and Aubrey Pavleck 21 set assists. The Broncos improve to 18-6 on the season and did not lose a match played at the Falls High Gym this season. International Falls will play in Hermantown in the Section 7AA semifinals on Wednesday at 5:15 against Rush City who defeated Proctor in 3 sets. Our coverage begins with the pregame at 4:50. This will be the first time the Bronco volleyball team has played in the section semifinals since 2005.
