Oakes @ Hillsboro Central Valley 11B Quarterfinal
Recap
The Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros force five takeaways and didn’t allow a score to defeat the Oakes Tornadoes 20-0 and advance to the 11B Semifinals. Hillsboro/Central Valley would capitalize on field position to start the game across midfield in Oakes territory and score on a Cole Hebl run from nine yards out on fourth down to take a 6-0 lead. With the Burros driving again late in the first half Oakes would stop the Burros inside the 10-yard line for the turnover on down before driving almost the length of the field to the Burro 9-yard line with 15 seconds left before halftime. This time it was the Burro defense that swatted away a fourth-down pass attempt to keep Oakes from scoring before halftime and preserving the 6-0 lead. Hillsboro/Central Valley’s defense kept the momentum and took the ball away from Oakes with their third interception of the game on the opening drive of the second half. Again with a short field Riley Olsen found the Endzone from 6-yards out and had the 13-0 lead after the PAT kick. A fourth interception by the Burro defense and another short field lead to another Cole Hebl TD run early in the fourth quarter, and the fifth interception in the final minutes of the game iced the game as the Burros were able to kneel out the clock for the win. Oakes ends their season with a 9-2 record while Hillsboro/Central Valley wins their ninth straight game and takes a 10-1 record on the road to face undefeated Velva-Garrison-Drake-Anamoose (11-0) at 2pm next Saturday (11/5/22).
