Zach Ehnstrom’s shutout performance and Landon Janzen’s power paced the Aitkin Gobblers to a 16-3 victory over the Pequot Lakes Patriots in Game 1 of Doubleheader.

Pequot struck first with two runs coming off an error and Clay Erickson’s RBI double for a 3-0 lead. Aitkin wasted little time in the first inning with Carson Kullhem’s leadoff walk turning into a two-run home run from Ehnstrom, his first career varsity round tripper, followed by Landon Janzen’s solo homer to give the Gobblers a 4-3 lead.

Aitkin never looked back, scoring 16 unanswered runs, highlighted by 5 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, and Ehnstrom would settle down on the mound. The Junior right-hander went to retire 10 straight batters before a base hit 5th inning. Ehnstrom finished the game with 5 innings pitched, allowed 3 runs off 2 hits and struck out 3 batters.

The Gobblers bats came alive early with Landon Janzen going 2-for-3 with HR’s, 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and a hit by pitch. Runs were also tallied behind Tanner Hills and Carson Kullhem’s RBI double and Dayton Hallaway’s RBI groundout.

Pequot Lakes was led by Clay Erickson’s RBI double and Conner Quale’s single. Erickson took the loss on the mound, pitching 2 2/3 innings and surrendered 11 runs on 10 hits and 3 walks with 3 strikeouts.

Before going into Game 2, Aitkin was 3-0 and Pequot Lakes was 0-2.
