Pine City at Northern Lakes
Recap
After falling behind twice in the first period, the Northern Lakes Lightning pulled away in the third for an 8-4 win over the Dragons of Pine City Area.
Pine City scored just over a minute into the game as Aiden Welch deflected a puck in to give the visitors a very early advantage. Northern Lakes’ Tyler Seeling tied the score at the 7:16 mark, on the first of his five goals on the night. Pine City regained the lead, but two goals within 17 seconds of each other late in the period sent the Lightning into the locker room up 3-2 after the first.
The second period was an even battle with each team scoring once. Northern Lakes extended their lead to 4-2 on a shorthanded goal by Quady Bernu, his first of the year. The Dragons answered that goal, and we headed to the third with Northern Lakes up 4-3.
Seeling, who had two goals in the first, found the net three more times in the third, including both a shorthanded and power play goal, as the Lightning pulled away for the win.
The Dragons fall to 4-9 and travel to Becker/Big Lake Thursday, while the Lightning improve to 6-4 and host Prairie Center Thursday in Breezy Point.
