Recap

The Pequot Lakes Patriots met the Proctor Rails in the section 7AA semifinals for the 3rd time in 5 years on Wednesday, but after it was the Rails who emerged victorious in the first two editions, round 3 went a different way.

The Patriots started the game with the lead and never once relinquished it. The Rails were able to consistently produce scoring runs to keep the game close in the first half, but fouls began to pile up early for them, and at the break, the Patriots led 27-22, but the Rails had already picked up 11 team fouls.

The story of the second half was, once again, fouls, but this time, for both teams. After Pequot Lakes committed just 6 fouls in the first half, their total was doubled in the second, as 12 more team fouls saw sophomores Kelsi Martini and Ella Krachtovil leave the game late. The Patriots got off easy relative to the Rails, though: midway through the second half, junior Hope Carlson, one of the top scorers for Proctor, fouled out, becoming the first of 3 Rails to leave the game due to fouls (seniors Gabby Jauhola and Payton Rodberg would join her later).

With Proctor dealing with a player shortage, the Patriots were effectively able to stave off any comeback efforts and finished the game with a 57-45 win. They advance to the section finals, where they will play Pierz.
