Clearbrook, MN — The Red Lake Warriors hung onto a 10 point win on Tuesday night over the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears 97-87 in a game that saw quite literally a little bit of everything.

Both teams charged out of the gates in the first half going back and forth exchanging blows and eventually saw the Bears get out to a seven point lead 21-14. The physical back and forth play continued for the rest of the first half and Red Lake took a slim advantage 30-28 with less then two minutes to play. Red Lake would then go on a 9-2 run in the final 1:52 of the first half to go up by 49-37 at the break.

The second half saw four technical fouls, some smack talk between players and fans and a player score their 1,000th career point. Red Lake lead by as much as 18 in the second half but Clearbrook-Gonvick chipped away at that deficit and was able to get it back to within six points 72-66 at the 9:14 mark. It was around that time that Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears Senior Logan Westrum nailed a pair of free throws to eclipse 1,000 points for his career. The game was stopped to honor Westrum on his milestone but immediately following that, Red Lake went on an immediate run to get their lead back to double figures. After that Clearbrook-Gonvick was able to get it back to within single digits a few times but could never come all they way back as the Warriors would win 97-87.

Red Lake now improves to 12-6 on the season and will be at Cass Lake-Bena on Thursday for a big conference matchup. Cleatbrook-Gonvick falls to 6-10 and will be on the road at Red Lake County on Thursday. (96.7 FM KKCQ)
