Region 2 Boys Basketball Tournament Semifinals

#1 Thompson 62, #5 Mayport-CG 60

Thompson rallied from a nine point deficit in the third quarter to defeat Mayport-CG 62-60 Tuesday night in the North Dakota Region 2 Boys Basketball Tournament in Grand Forks.

Junior Drew Overby scored Thompson’s final 11 points of the game…including a three pointer with 1:20 to play that put the Tommies in front 59-58 and three free throws in the final 17 seconds to seal the victory. Overby finished the night with 24 points and three three-point baskets.  Jake Starcevic added 19 for Thompson.

Mayport-CG had a strong outside shooter of their own in senior Xyler Carlson..with four threes (all in the third quarter) and 24 points in all.  Landon Koenig added 13 for the Patriots, who are now 16-7 on the year.

Thompson (15-7) meets defending Region 2 champion Grafton Thursday night in Grand Forks for the Region title and a trip to the State Class B Tournament.
