The Pine River-Backus Tigers hosted the Staples-Motley Cardinals on Monday in a battle of area teams.

The game began with the Tigers and Cardinals trading scoring runs, with the Tigers jumping out to a 6-0 lead before the Cardinals fought back with an 8-0 run of their own. An early timeout got the Tigers on track, en route to a 10-0 run, and they never looked back. The first half saw an offensive explosion for the Tigers led by Ramsey Tulenchik with the game sitting at 49-20 at the break. From there, the Tigers coasted to the finish line, playing reserve players frequently, and the game ended with a 72-54 score.

PRB (8-9) travels to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Friday. Staples-Motley (3-16) will host Aitkin on Thursday.
