Thompson 3 #1 Northern Cass 2 (20-25, 26-24, 21-25, 26-24, 15-13)

In a battle of two top-ranked North Dakota Class B volleyball teams, 5th-ranked Thompson defeated top-ranked Northern Cass in five sets Tuesday night at Northern Cass.  In the process, the Tommies ended the Jaguars’ 26 game unbeaten streak.

The match was tightly contested, with Northern Cass taking the first set 25-20 as Eleise Sand had four kills for the Jaguars.

Thompson senior Summer Hegg had seven of her team high 24 kills in set two, as the Tommies squared the match 26-24.

Northern Cass won the third set 25-21; then Thompson responded with a 26-24 win in the fourth set, as Brenna Martin had two blocks and two kills down the stretch for the Tommies.

The Jaguars jumped to a 7-4 lead in the deciding fifth set, but Thompson rallied as Martin had three kills and a block and Hegg two kills to clinch a 15-13 win.

Thompson is now 16-5 on the year; Northern Cass is 26-1.

Josie Jensen had 11 kills, three blocks and two aces for Northern Cass, with teammate Halle Crockett also with 11 kills.

Hegg had 24 kills and two blocks for Thompson, while Martin added 20 kills and five blocks.
