Two Harbors at Aitkin

An early first half lead was more than enough for #2 seed Aitkin for a 16-6 victory in the Section 7AAA Semifinals against #6 seed Two Harbors from Veterans Field in Aitkin.

After both teams traded a punt to open the game, Aitkin put up the first score of the game with Gus Sanford converting a 4th and Goal and a 3 yard touchdown. The two-point run from Sanford made it 8-0 for the Gobblers after the 1st Quarter.

Aitkin extended their lead to 16-0 with Jackson MacDonald’s 1 yard run, followed by Sanford’s 1 yard pass to Nathan Price on the two point attempt. Two Harbors would answer on the next drive with Kyler Pitkanen 10 yard rushing touchdown, but the extra point was missed with the score 16-6 for the Gobblers.

Coming out of the halftime with a 16-6 advantage for Aitkin, both offenses would struggle to find their footing. Both teams would turnover the ball on downs twice in the third quarter with no real offensive threat. More of the same continued in the 4th Quarter with Zack MacDonald sealing the game with an interception and a 16-6 victory.

Aitkin is now 8-2 on the season with a trip to the Section 7AAA Championship game Thursday in Duluth against #1 seed Esko. Two Harbors finishes their season at 6-3.
