Gardening Events At Area Libraries

Lake Agassiz Regional Library is inviting community members to dig into a variety of gardening programs scheduled throughout the month of March.

The Barnesville Public Library will once again partner with the University of Minnesota Clay County Extension to offer a Seed Starting Workshop on Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m. Learn more about starting garden seeds indoors and caring for new seedlings. The program will also include a seed and plant swap.

The Detroit Lakes Library will partner with the Master Gardeners to offer a Seed Starting Open House on Saturday March 21. Offered from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes Public Library, the Open House will cover the basics of seed starting, soil testing, and composting through hands-on stations, additional resources, and displays.

The Crookston Public Library will open its Seed Library and host a Seed Exchange on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. The Seed Library is offered in partnership with Polk County Extension’s Master Gardener Volunteers and the Tri-Valley Family Resource Center. Participants are invited to bring viable seeds to exchange with others and/or donate to the Crookston Seed Library as well as pick up free garden seeds to plant (while supplies are available). Seeds should be in secure packaging with some envelopes supplied. The Seed Library is made possible thanks to seed donations from the Family Resource Center (FRC) and the support of the Polk County Master Gardener Volunteers.

The Hawley Public Library will offer a Seed Starting Workshop on Tuesday, March 24 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. featuring the expertise of Jillian Patrie of the University of Minnesota Clay County Extension. Participants will learn about starting garden seeds indoors and caring for new seedlings. The program will also include a seed and plant swap.

The fun isn’t just for adults! The Crookston Public Library’s monthly Library Learning Lab will feature the topic of Gardening, inviting youth to explore learning with activities and crafts. The programs are scheduled Monday, March 30 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m.
