Recap

Detroit Lakes pulled ahead early and never looked back in defeating Aitkin 76-42 to sweep the season series Thursday night at Aitkin High School.

The Lakers jumped out with a 15-0 lead before Aitkin scored their first points of the game. Detroit Lakes used their size to steal away passes from the Gobblers undersized guards, even with Aitkin playing through illness, injuries, and players gone due to family obligations. Easy layups on steals and cutting on the backside of Aitkin’s defense allowed Detroit Lakes to a 45-23 halftime lead.

Aitkin opened the second half with a 3-pointer from Ella Janzen but turnovers continued to pile on with the Gobblers finishing the game with 25 in their 12th straight loss. Detroit Lakes had 8 different scorers, led by Abby Larson’s 15 followed by Grace Gunderson’s 14. Janzen led the Gobblers with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Abby Palm finished with 13 points and 4 rebounds.

Aitkin is now 6-17 on the season as they hit the road to take on Rush City Friday night. Detroit Lakes improves to 8-11 and will play their 4th game this week on Saturday at Pequot Lakes.
