Recap

What an exciting finish to the Senior Legion baseball game on Friday night at Scheela Field against Moose Lake/Barnum.  It was a pitcher’s duel through 6 innings as the Broncos scored first in the bottom of the 4th and Moose Lake/Barnum tied it at one in the top of the 5th.  It remained that way until the top of the 7th when MLB started it off with a hit by pitch and a single, but rightfielder Matt Wherley threw out the runner trying to advance to 3rd base.  The next batter singled to centerfield but Jett Tomczak threw out the runner at home to keep the score tied at 1.  The ensuing batter hit a fly ball to the outfield that was dropped and result in MLB taking a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the 7th.   Jett Tomczak led off with a single, Tucker Hell grounded out and Cody Joslyn and Joe Talmage walked to load the bases. That brought Bryant Koenig to the plate who laced the first pitch over the centerfielder’s head to knock in the game tying and game winning runs.  Koenig describes the game winning hit.

Joe Talmage was the starting pitcher and struck out 12 in 6 innings of work.  With the 3-2 victory, the Post 66 Senior Legion team is 6-3 and will resume play on Thursday against Proctor which will start a stretch of 6 games in 6 days.

The Post 66 Junior Legion baseball team also took on Moose Lake/Barnum.  The visitors scored a pair of runs in the first to take the early lead before the Falls tied it at 2 in the bottom of 3rd.  MLB regained the lead with a run in the top of the 4th but Post 66 scored 6 times on their way to an 8-6 win.  Cody Joslyn had 2 hits and 4 RBI and Jake Olson who had 2 hits, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored says he has been in the cage working on his batting.

With the win, the Junior Legion team is 3-3 on the season and plays at Deer River on Tuesday at 6:00.
