Clearbrook, MN — The Mahnomen-Waubun Thunderbirds improved to 3-6 on the season after beating the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Mahnomen/Waubun took the first set rather handily 25-15, taking advantage of some early mistakes from Clearbrook-Gonvick. The Bears would respond however in the last three sets of the match, going back and forth with the Thunderbirds but would eventually drop each set by less than four points. Mahnomen/Waubun’s Kendra Syverson had a big night with 18 kills as the Thunderbirds are now 3-6 and will travel to Cass Lake-Bena on Thursday for a match with the Panthers. Clearbrook-Gonvick is now 0-4, their worst start since the 2016-2017 season, and will be at Red Lake Falls on Thursday.
