Clearbrook, MN — The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears used a well rounded attack to beat the Bagley Flyers 3-0 in the 6th edition of “The Smackdown of Clearwater County.”

The Smackdown of Clearwater County is a traveling trophy between the schools of Clearbrook-Gonvick and Bagley. Clearbrook-Gonvick is 5-1 since its fruition in 2018. The one loss was last year but after Tuesday night’s victory, Clearbrook-Gonvick wins back the trophy for another year. The Bears went back and forth with the Flyers in the first set until Bagley went on a 9-0 to take the lead. But Clearbrook-Gonvick scratched their way back into it and would win set one 25-23. In set two, the Bears got up 5-3 early and never trailed after that point en route to a 25-15 win. Bagley would need to win the third set to keep the match going and while they made a great effort to do so, the well rounded attack of the Bears would be the difference down the stretch and would win it 25-21 and 3-0 overall.

Clearbrook-Gonvick is now 2-0 on the season and will host Pine River-Backus on Thursday. Bagley falls to 1-2 and will play in the Ada-Borup-West Tournament on Saturday.
