Alex Churness carried the ball 15 times for 190 yards and two touchdowns as the Bears defeated Cass Lake-Bena 36-6 on Parents Night at Clearbrook-Gonvick. The Bears struck first with 8:00 left in the first quarter when Ty Dyrdahl scored the first of his two touchdowns on a five yard run and the Bears had a 6-0 lead. Alex Churness would extend the lead with a one yard touchdown run with 1:11 left in the first quarter and the Bears led 14-0 after one. The only touchdown of the second quarter came on a third down and 37 play when Colin Crotteau connected with Michael Roy on a 76 yard touchdown pass and the Bears took a 22-0 lead into halftime. Alex Churness scored his second touchdown of the game just 21 seconds into the third quarter when he scored on a 62 yard run and Clearbrook-Gonvick led 28-0. The Bears closed out their scoring on a 1 yard run by Ty Dyrdahl with 9:25 left in the third quarter as teh Bars built a 36-0 lead. The Panthers scored their only touchdown with 1:06 left in the game when Kaydin Lee hit Kingsly Whitebird with a 40 yard touchdown pass. Clearbrook-Gonvick improves to 1-2 on the season while the Panthers fall to 0-3.
