VB: Clearbrook-Gonvick 3 at Win-E-Mac 2 (16-25, 26-24, 25-12, 9-25, 15-10)

The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears held on to win the fifth set 15-10 and went on to defeat the Win-E-Mac Patriots 3-2 in the season opener for both teams. The Patriots won the first set 25-16 and led the Bears 23-20 in the second set. The Bears closed the second set with a 6-1 run and won 26-24 to tie the match a 1-1.The two teams combined for 33 service errors with 21 of those coming in the first two sets. Tatum Melby led the Bears with 10 kills and 4 service aces as Clearbrook-Gonvick starts their season at 1-0. Emma Fawver had 8 kills and Kenna Hartwig added 7 kills for the Bears. Jaime Stuhr led Win-E-Mac with 8 kills as the Patriots start their season at 0-1. Emily Strom had 6 kills and Ella Strom 5 kills for Win-E-Mac. Nevaeh Simpson recorded 6 service aces for Win-E-Mac. Win-E-Mac won the “B” Squad match 2-1 with the Patriots also coming out on top in the “C” Squad match 2-0.
